The Madison is a dance with a hypnotic charm, which is full of paradoxes : simple and complex, playful but with no space for improvisation, grassroots and elegant, there is something thrilling and exasperating in the repetition of the ordered steps.

It all depends on how you look at it…

The simple body posture of the dancers allows the spectators to take in the details, to see differences in the ease of the dancers, to watch the back of a neck, to observe the tiniest wrong step, or to expect a complete catastrophe. Because it’s terribly tempting to disrupt the cheerful mechanics of the dance.

The rigorous and reassuring geometry is submitted to principals of creation and change.

Imperceptible dynamic pulses are introduced, which methodically mess up the principles of the Madison. The components are gradually out-of-phase, disequilibrium becomes irreversible, and then we watch, delighted, as chaos takes over.
